The bag of Aurora 8 came out of hiding around 4 pm central time - swatching, teammates...that's allowed.
I took a quick peek at the pattern to check the gauge. The pattern calls for Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran - which is the same label weight as my yarn. The design calls for size 8 needles. That seems big to me so I start with 7's, although I usually knit pretty close to gauge - that's not perfect, folks, just average. OMG. Not even close. I reread the pattern.
I remeasure A for the third time. She is ticklish and the key measure calls for the center of the underarms. A is not so sure she wants this after all. I try 6's...and 5's and 4's and finally get gauge on 3's. Geez.
The swatch looks fabulous . I cast on just as I see him
Bob Costas is finally on (who is that dude with the wire hair and tacky suit on at the start and why do they show the first hour of stuff nobody cares about - practice runs for the downhill <yawn>)
Tubey and the Knitting Olympics have begun. Have I told you how much I love Aurora 8? The stitch definition is superb and it is so soft.
Watching the teams walk in to tacky 80's music that I hated in the 80's was painful. I told P (back from California, he is today and he was sorely missed) that the next thing we needed to hear was "Funkytown". Not TWO minutes later, the song started. Steven Greenberg must be happy (he wrote the song and we know him - sorry Steven), but we were NOT. We are opera fanatics and couldn't understand why we weren't hearing Verdi and Puccini. That came later. And it was really grand. We are francophiles, but we heart Italy as well.
I hate how NBC (the new religious right channel) has decided that the Olympics are about AMERICAN athletes WINNING. I prefer to think of them as showcasing the highest form of sport, REGARDLESS of the country. I heart Alberto Tomba. And Jean-Claude Killy. And Ingemar Stenmark. Enuf said.
Tomorrow is A's sweet sixteen party so I will not be knitting or updating until Sunday. We will Tivo tomorrow's festivities and be up to date on Sunday.
May the best team win.
